 Subject: A Topic That Is Usually Laughed At.  Sun Mar 14, 2010 10:49 pm |

Okay, so this isn't just some evaluation over the past 2 or 3 days, I've been watching this for quite some time. Is it just me, or does it seem that Vortex is slowly but steadily dieing? The activity lately has been absolutely appalling. In Custom Sprites, there's a sprite on the first page from 11 days ago. Usually the most is maybe 4 days, but 11?! Really? Also, don't contribute this to something IRL such as Finals or Midterms or such, because it's not that time of year.
What gives, Vortex?

I've actually noticed this for about a week now, particularly in general chat. I know I haven't been posting a lot, but I never really did.

IMO it's the noobs that steal sprites. Great spriters don't post because thier worried that thier sprites will get stolen. Without these awesome sprites getting posted there is no inspiration for others to make wicked sprites and post them . . .That's IMO.

Maybe regular sprite competitions/tournaments should be held to encourage spriting. I know most editors don't bother posting because they think nobody reads their stories (Which for the most part, is true). And if spriters aren't going to show their work - why try and make it? People shouldn't be afraid of posting their sprites, as long as they say don't steal, and they see someone stealing, that person gets a warning. Pretty easy to be honest.

The problem is RPG, when that was here people where on for days straight and thats what has been keeping everyone occupied and made people bored waiting so they made sprites to post and posted on others sprites.

Well i don't really post anymore but i still hang around and compared to even half-way through last year vortex is pretty much dying fairly quickly... i mean i haven't been on for a week and there is only a few new topics in the general chat which used to fill up all the time... Well i probably won't be here 'till the end but i hope that something happens soon because i don't want this place to die at all.

I say in 3 or 4 months we will be back to usual.
It's just a rough patch. It happened on Excoboard as well.
I must say though the lack of people posting on sprites and sprite sheets is probably contributing to the matter.
Also, when people just post "omg 10/10 u gun sheeeeeeet?" is fucking annoying.
(I know that has nothing to do with this topic but I had to get it off my chest.)

I wish I had the activity that I used to. But my job bought my soul a few months ago and it makes it hard to do non-work related activities.

That's actually a good idea, maybe an RPG should be intergrated back into the site. It would help the community get active again as people could represent their characters with sprites. I vote for this.

Always a short term solution that has been intergrated. Hence why we've had more than 4 RPGs run on this forum in the years it has been active.

it's like the beginning of a hurricane.
If nobody get's commented on their sprites cause nobody is active, it will drop the urge to sprite, wich will cause more members to be unactive.
What to do about it...

I really get bored of spriting when nobody comments on my stuff, honestly the only reason I sprite is for other people to admire it if nobody is commenting it's basically saying nobody is admiring therefore I lose the will to sprite.
I'm sure it's the same with everyone else.

Same here; a little. Not so much for the admiration(you selfish ass  ) but to improve as well. Without any comments you cant really get better except for by your own eyes.
